IRN EURASIGN: Comparative Approach on European Sign Languages
The aim of this international research network is
- to bring together experts in sign language research from 9 European institutions (Germany, Belgium Flemish, Belgium French, Spain, France, Italian, Netherlands),
- to jointly develop methodological and theoretical foundations,
- to study typological features of sign languages among themselves and in relation to the spoken languages.
Steps
The collaborative work consists of three steps:
- an elaboration of a framework to describe different types of sign language units and their arrangement in discourse, and the application of this framework when comparing a data set.
- an exemplary comparison of annotated sequences in the different sign languages.
- the establishment of a sufficiently explicit common framework to enable later comparisons.
