De-Sign Bilingual - Developing and Documenting Sign Bilingual Best Practice in Schools

Profoundly hearing impaired children in many European countries are still mainly taught monolingually in a spoken language - in special needs schools as well as in inclusive education. Bilingual education with one spoken / written language as well as the national sign language is still an exception. The strategic partnership "De-Sign Bilingual" complements existing national and regional efforts for bilingual instruction with sign language by enabling transnational exchange and makes a major contribution to professionalisation of teachers.

The Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership
  • develops and implements bilingual units and teaching materials
  • allows trans-regional and international cooperation of key figures in the area of sign bilingual education
  • gives national and international access to local knowledge and competencies
  • documents bilingual best practice models in European sign language education in order to enable transnational knowledge sharing
